Idruna Software's Pocket Phojo 2.6 a smash hit at Wimbledon, set to go for gold at the Olympics

Murrieta, CA - July 21st, 2004 - Idruna Pocket Phojo, the highly acclaimed Pocket PC solution specifically designed to allow photojournalists to get photos back to base as rapidly and conveniently as possible, proved an essential tool at Wimbledon 2004, where laptops were initially banned from the show courts due to space constraints.

AFP, the world's oldest established news agency, and PA News, the UK leader in sports and news information, both used multiple Pocket PC systems running the Phojo software to transmit a total of 230-280 photos per day from the courts, every day for two weeks. Both agencies plan on repeating this success at the 2004 Olympics, as will many other newspapers and agencies from Greece and around the world.

"We used Phojo with a Fujitsu 610 BT&Wifi PDA, and it was great. About 150 photos/days were sent, to the Editor in the press center, and 50 pictures directly to the customers."

"Wimbledon was also forthcoming this year with WiFi from Centre and No.1 and hotspots on the outer courts, so we had no need for runners.

We used PDA's for the first time because Wimbledon required us to use them due to space restraints on the courts. And as our competitors struggled, EPA gave up, Reuters and Getty were given dispensation to use PC's in the end from Centre and AP didn't even bother to try, AFP and our super technician Christophe was flying. I must say that I expected some troubles, but no, it was flawless, the pictures flew over the WiFi network back to the presscenter and from there DV on a 2gig pipeline to our clients.

So PDA's has proven their worth. The long battery life gives it a big advantage over PC's on these kind of assignments."

Richard Aylmer-Hall - Editorial IT Business Manager, PA News
"The Press Association took full advantage of a trial of wireless networking which was made available to us for the first time at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

The AELTC provided access to their private LAN in the photographer's pits on Centre Court and Number One Court, and at a point behind Number 2 court.

Having been told that we wouldn't be able to use laptops on Centre & Number One courts we bought 2 HP iPaq 5550 Pocket PC handhelds and installed Idruna's Pocket Phojo picture handling and transmitting software.

In the event the organisers decided that smaller laptops & iBooks could be used discretely on the show courts so the iPaqs were used in the end by photographers working on the outside courts to deliver pictures shot on Nikon and Canon professional digital cameras to a Picture Editor working in the Press Centre.

Of the 150-200 pictures from Wimbledon sent daily on PA's picture wire service about 30 were captioned, cropped and delivered using Pocket Phojo on the iPaqs.

We also used iPaqs and Phojo at the Euro2004 soccer championships and will do so at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens."
