Phil Spencer - The Daily Mirror
"An old woman's grief in Ramallah as she holds the Hamas flag."

"This is a Phojo transmission of a photo taken on a recent assignment in the West Bank. It was transferred to Phojo from my Nikon WT-1 and wired to London via BGan satphone."
Phil Harris - Row4Life/Daily Mirror
"Back from the Atlantic a while now having rowed across in just under 60 days, raising over £450k for our charities. Phojo did a great job getting back our images for the Daily Mirror, so thanks for your support."
Max Nash - AP Photo
"British armed police patrol London's Leicester Square in July 2005, following the suicide bombings on the London transport system. The photo, widely published, was transmitted into the Associated Press World wide network directly from a pda using Phojo, from a nearby wifi point."
Phil Spencer - The Daily Mirror
"Phojo beat the deadline at the end of the Ashes cricket Test Match. Shooting the crowd at a giant TV screening of the game in Manchester I transferred the image through my WT-1 on my Nikon D2H to my PDA running Phojo 3. The result is the photo in the Daily Mirror."
Paul Sanders - Picture Editor, The Times
"Pocket Phojo coupled with a Pocket PC has become a most potent addition to our digital kit. Whether in Downing Street, on the campaign trail, or in a crowd disturbance, Times photographers can edit a full CF card, colour correct, caption, and use Phojo's built-in FTP client to begin transmitting their first selection of pictures to the picture desk within a few minutes. With BlueTooth, the mobile phone does not even need to be taken out of their bag, and high speed WiFi hotspots are making things even faster. When off duty, the iPAQ running Phojo combined with a compact digital camera means that our photographers always have the ability to file wherever no matter they are."
Michel Spingler - AP Photo

"A police officers runs from a fire bomb during a protest on the second day of U.S President George W. Bush's meeting with European Union and NATO leaders, Tuesday Feb.22, 2005 in Brussels."

Morten Uglum - Aften Posten

"Here is a photo of the Norwegian, Hofstad, Nordic Combined, passes (jumps over) the finish line and takes WC gold medal for the Norwegian team. Two minutes later the photo was on www.aftenposten.no frontpage. Using: PDA - Phojo - GSM (cell.phone)"
Edmond Terakopian - www.pix.org.uk

"I've been using Phojo for around 7 months and love it. I've had it on iPaqs and now on a Toshiba e800. Withought a doubt, with its VGA screen, the Tosh is the one to get. I can't recommend it highly enough. When you're in a rush or need to travel/work light, nothing else will do. Here's a picture which shows when Phojo comes into its own. It's a picture taken of students demonstrating outside the Houses of Parliament, for student fees. It was late and very close to the first deadlines. I took my early pictures, took several steps away from the crowds of demonstrators, got out my pda, loaded up the pictures, did an edit of two, captioned and sent them via Bluetooth, through my mobile phone, back to the PA desk. The other photographers meanwhile were still trying to find a safe place to take out their laptops! Every once in a while I'd get questioned as to what I was doing. When I said I'm just sending my second picture, you should've seen the expressions!"
Terry Kane - www.eyewitnessimages.co.uk

"I'd just like to mention that I've just used Phojo a few times and transmitted images back to some of my newspapers by both email and ftp and my mac has since only come out of my bag once back at home! Need I give any further endorsement!"
Daniele Venturelli, Fotografo

When Italy's Minister of defence challenged Michael Schumacher to race a Eurofighter Typhoon, the clear winner was Daniele Venturelli and his Pocket Phojo system. The race began at 10:26am, this photo was on newspapers web sites by 10:28am.
John Lehmann, Globe and Mail

"Phojo software is a great blend of technology and simplicity designed to make a photojournalist even faster. Idruna has the best customer support I've ever received from any software developer."
Richard Drew, Staff Photographer AP-New York

"I was assigned to cover the final takeoff of the British Airways Concorde at New York's JFK International Airport recently. My assignment was to photograph the air traffic controller, who directed the landing of the first Concorde at JFK in 1977, who would also handle the last flight.

For this, I was allowed access to the control tower.

After the plane's early morning departure, I immediately Phojo'd the images of the controller from the tower via FTP to the AP via my Sprint 3G card. Everyone was impressed to see them come back on the Yahoo-News-Photos site on the tower's computer before we left. Ed Betz photographed the departure from the runway."
Max Nash - AP Photo
"David Moore, Middletown, Conn., USA, takes his Fletcher, A Giant Human Batsuit, across the water from the pier, in the International Bognor Birdman 2005 competition at the Bognor Regis Peer, England"

How to get Images into Pocket Phojo

  • The easiest way to get images into Phojo is to take the card out of the camera, and stick it in the Pocket PC
  • Pocket PCs usually have a CompactFlash and SD slot
  • Smartphones have a single SD or Mini-SD slot
  • Adapters allow SD or Mini-SD cards to fit in CompactFlash Cameras

USB Cameras

Pocket Phojo supports connecting directly to the following cameras via USB:
  • Canon 1D Mark II
  • Canon 1D Mark II N
  • Canon 1Ds Mark II
  • Canon 20D
  • Canon 30D
  • Canon 5D
  • Nikon D2X and D2H*
A Pocket PC with either USB Host Support (the Loox range), or a Ratoc USB CompactFlash Adapter is required.

* - Nikon cameras do not support using the camera LCD display while connected

Connecting via USB

  • Once connected, the camera’s flash card appears just like a regular storage card in Phojo’s image browser
  • You can keep shooting new images while connected
  • You can open images directly from the camera
  • Pocket Phojo can be told to automatically process protected images

WiFi Enabled Cameras

In addition to connecting via USB, Pocket Phojo also supports WiFi enabled cameras such as the Nikon P1

WiFi Transmitters

The Canon WFT and Nikon WT WiFi transmitters are a snap to use thanks to the the built-in FTP and PTP/IP server

WiFi Cameras and Canon WFT/Nikon WT Support

  • Pocket Phojo now supports the Nikon P1/P2, Canon WFT-E1, and Nikon WT-1/2/3 via an easy to use Configure Camera Wizard
  • In just a few simple steps, it automatically configures Phojo’s built-in FTP or PTP/IP servers, plus creates an ad-hoc WiFi hotspot
  • In the case of the WFT-E1 and WT-1/2/3, a profile is stored on your flash card, that can be loaded into the camera to eliminate the need to manually configure it

What you can do once the images are in the Pocket PC

  • Pocket Phojo has a very powerful yet easy to use feature called Watch Folders
  • Simply tell Pocket Phojo to watch the card or folders that your images arrive in, then tell it what you would like done to the images, such as adding a caption, resizing, and transmitting via email or FTP

Advanced Folder Watching

  • For advanced users, Watch Folders can be chained together
  • For example, the first folder being watched is the CompactFlash card.
  • When images arrive, you can configure Phojo to copy protected files to a folder on the internal SD Card.
  • A 2nd action watches this folder, opens the image, resizes it to 8x10 at 200 DPI, compresses it to around 500KB, and transmits it via FTP
  • A 3rd action watches the same folder, but resizes images to 800x600 pixels for the web, and emails it to an editor
  • In this manner, even complex repetitive actions can be completely automated
